There’s a world of difference between planning a subdivision on paper and bringing it to life on the ground. Designs and blueprints can make it all look seamless, but once boots hit the dirt, reality has its own timeline—and a few surprises along the way.

At the very start of the project, we encountered an unexpected challenge: a large vein of rock running directly through the area where the road was planned. This natural obstacle wasn’t in the original scope and caused a significant delay right out of the gate.

In August 2023, wildfires in the region forced a full stop on site work, creating another major pause in our timeline. Just a few months later, in January 2024, extreme cold and a hard freeze brought everything to a standstill once again, freezing the ground solid and making excavation impossible.

Despite these setbacks, we’ve made steady progress. All major underground services—Hydro, Telephone, Cable, Water, and Sewer—have now been installed. With utilities in place, road construction has resumed, and Highlands Drive is taking shape.

Currently, Dawson Construction is laying the gravel to prepare for paving and our workers are busy cleaning up the road edges.
